Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.  It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through the use of slow strokes and deep pressure applied to contracted areas.  The strokes generally either follow or go across the fibers of muscles, tendons and fascia.

Due to the pressure involved and its focus on specific areas of the body, this type of massage may cause some tenderness during or right after the massage.  However, if the massage is done correctly, you should feel better and experience significant improvement within 24-36 hours after your session.

Why get a Deep Tissue Massage?

It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. It feels good because after tissues are properly warmed with preliminary strokes, the deeper pressure that’s applied will cause the muscles to relax deeply and seem to “melt” – producing a wonderful feeling. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. It’s important to drink plenty of water following this type of massage to help the body naturally eliminate and flush out these toxins.  A good soak in a nice warm Epsom salts bath or at least a hot shower after your session can also enhance both the de-tox process as well as help to keep any post-massage soreness to an absolute minimum.
