CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a soft tissue release therapy that
targets the central nervous system. It is a light-touch manual
treatment that manipulates the membranes and fluid which
surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. The name
refers to the hydraulic system that extends from the cranium,
down the spine to the sacrum or tailbone. The healthy
circulation of spinal and lymphatic fluids is vital to the
proper function of the entire body. Trained therapists gently
place their hands on fully-clothed patients to feel the rhythm
of the craniosacral system, checking key locations extending
from the bones of the skull to the feet for restrictions and
imbalances, and using delicate compression and traction
techniques to gently encourage the body to enhance its own fluid
pressure thus allowing the entire system to reflect normal,
healthy mobility. |

How is a CranioSacral Therapist trained? |
|
| |
Trained at the Upledger Institute, Sharon is certified by the
Institute and has experienced multiple layers of classes,
examinations and practice since 2000. The sensitivity and
palpation skills that she has developed through learning and
doing this work inform and enhance all her other hands-on
therapies.

What to Expect during a Session of CST? |
|
| |
You will lie comfortably on a padded massage table, covered for
warmth if needed. The session will typically last anywhere from
60 to 75 minutes. You will experience a deep feeling of
relaxation and well-being. The touch of the therapist is so
light that at times it may seem that the therapist is hardly
touching you at all. Often clients fall asleep and many say
that they have never felt so relaxed. Sometimes during the
course of treatment, you could experience a feeling of heat or a
“hot flash”. These temperature changes as well as occasional
pulsing sensations and stomach gurgles can be perceived and are
wonderful and welcome signs that the body has “released”
restrictions it has been holding. |
